About ATF 2025

The International Institute for Sustainable Transition in Africa invites researchers, policymakers, professionals, and thought leaders to participate in the Second Edition of the Africa Transition Forum (ATF 2025). Under the theme Innovative Solutions to Africa’s Challenges: Demography, Urbanization, and Climate, the forum will explore innovative solutions that tackle those pressing challenges, fostering pathways towards a sustainable and resilient future.

CONTEXT

A continent rich in diversity and potential, Africa stands at a pivotal juncture in its development journey. With around 2.3% population growth rate, Africa is projected to have 2.5 billion inhabitants by 2050. Such unprecedented growth creates problems that a rapid urbanization expansion compounds. The urbanization occurs at the expense of agricultural lands. Furthermore, climate change disproportionately affects Africa, its urban areas in particular, despite that continent’s share of global greenhouse gas emissions, which is less than 4%. All those challenges strain natural resources, infrastructure, and social systems. The Africa Transition Forum ATF 2025 has one overall goal: to leverage science to turn each of the above-mentioned challenges into opportunities, making Africa a global leader in sustainable solutions.

AIMS

ATF 2025 aims to:

  1. Showcase cutting-edge research and solutions to address demographic dynamic, the urbanization and its impact on climate, and address their evolution within a changing climate in Africa.
  2. Strengthen the capacity of stakeholders, including policy makers, educators, researchers and local communities, to respond to these challenges.
  3. Foster partnerships between governments, academia, the private sector and civil society for scalable solutions adapted to local contexts.
